How it's made

Materials, construction and technical choices behind every HOLZ piece of furniture.

Poplar plywood

The structure of our furniture is made of Italian poplar plywood: thin layers of real wood glued together with a cross grain.

It is not chipboard, it is not MDF but real wood, more stable than solid wood.

The poplar grows quickly in the Po Valley, is light and has excellent resistance.

The same material is used in the nautical and special vehicles industries, where the wood must withstand humidity, temperature changes, and intense use without warping.

We use FSC-certified plywood, with almost zero formaldehyde emissions (CARB Phase 2 certification, the most restrictive in the world).

The surfaces

The outer faces of each wooden component are covered with a thin layer of oak or canaletto walnut.

Real wood, not plastic laminate or resin-soaked paper.

The protective finish is applied by hand.

We use a natural molecular oil: it protects the wood, enhances its grain, and can be easily restored over time.

The junctions

The structure is assembled with mortise and tenon joints glued with structural polyurethane glues.

No screws, no cam-locks, no exposed hardware.

HOLZ furniture cannot be dismantled because it is not designed to be dismantled.

The hardware store

The drawer slides and frames, hinges and other mechanical parts are from Häfele, a German manufacturer among the most reliable in the world.

Smooth sliding, soft closing, guaranteed durability.

The production

Each piece of furniture is handcrafted in our workshop in Reggio Emilia, to order.

Cutting, gluing, assembling, finishing: everything done in-house, one piece at a time.

No warehouse, no mass production.
